Stolen truck crashes in Gloryland yard
A stolen truck flipped and rolled last Wednesday (Oct. 1) morning in a residential neighbourhood of Slave Lake. According to (officially unconfirmed) reports, that was just the end of a goose chase that left a smashed police cruiser and a broken gas pump in its wake.
Farmer, student bring candidate number to seven
Voters in the Fort McMurray riding now have a regular smorgasbord of candidates to choose from. No less than six people are trying to take incumbent MP Brian Jean’s job away from him. Counting him, it makes seven candidates – although you wouldn’t know it from the array of campaign signs evident around Slave Lake.
Shooting in southwest Slave Lake
There was a shooting at a southwest Slave Lake home sometime on the morning of Oct. 5. That much seems certain, but the facts were hard to verify by press time, because police were mum on the subject.

Sports Highlights

Doug Smith’s remote controlled car flies off a jump at the new Slave Lake RC Model Club track one evening last week. The club is seeing a resurgence of interest with the installation this year of the track, which complements the landing strip for remote control planes, which has been in existence about 18 years. That’s Smith at the left and Brett Baird with the car flying behind him.

Winterhawks take care of visiting Aces
The Slave Lake Winterhawks senior men’s hockey team got a good start and hung on to beat the Athabasca Aces 5 - 4 in an exhibition game on Oct. 4.
Wolves get first win
The positive early signs continue for the Jr. ‘B’ Wolves. Playing on the road this past weekend, the wild dogs won their first of the season against the Sexsmith Vipers, with a whopping seven goals.
