Ethan Jonah Twin was the first baby born at the Slave Lake Health complex in 2003, arriving at 9:46 on New Year’s morning. The six pound, 12 oz bundle of joy and his mom Arlene Twin received the vast array of gifts from Slave Lake businesses, including everything from silver spoons to diapers and sleepers. Watch for a list of those gifts and businesses in next week’s Lakeside Leader.

Health complex closes several beds
There’s some “aggressive recruiting” for nurses happening in the Keeweetinok Lakes health region after a shortage of nurses forced the regional health authority to close all but 10 acute care beds at the Slave Lake health complex last month.
B & E blitz on Christmas Eve
Police in Slave Lake are blaming several persons from out of town, and some local residents for destroying the tranquil nature of Christmas and subsequent days late last year, but also say they’ve managed to catch up with who they believe are the responsible culprits, charging and releasing those individuals early last week.

The Winterhawks’ Adam Ching (#21) is in the right place at the right time late in the first period of the ‘Hawks game against Edson on Saturday. Ching scored and the ‘Hawks went on to beat the Ice.
The Wolves’ Jordan Onufriew fires one from the slot in Saturday night’s 11 - 3 Slave Lake win, while Sexsmith goalie Curtis Jones drops to make the save. The Sexsmith defenceman is Cory Kinnon.

Winterhawks 4 - 1 over Edson
After losing 8 – 3 to Edson the last time they met, it was pretty important for the Slave Lake Winterhawks to show the Ice guys who’s boss on home ice. They did that by beating Edson 4 – 1 Saturday night.
Wolves start year with a loss and a win
The Slave Lake Wolves scored 23 goals in their first two games of 2003. They also gave up 15, and came home from the B.C. road trip with two points.
