Fish and Wildlife officers Kyle Lester (centre) and David Dickson got a ‘group buzz’ when their RCMP counterparts learned all there is to know about the TASER last week. Officers were physically attached to the probes before an electrical current was administered, causing many to be launched into the air before hitting the ground. In the background, assistant TASER trainer Const. Ryan Gardiner from the Slave Lake detachment prevents the pair from hitting the mats too hard.

'Curtains' for Walter Twinn Theatre?
It could be ‘final curtain’ at Walter Twinn Musical Theatre in the very near future unless Slave Lake Town fathers or the Slave Lake Musical Theatre Association find the estimated $50,000 it’s going to take to help the building meet all the codes necessary to keep its doors open.
Home invasion draws 33 months for youth
A Slave Lake youth who admitted he was part of a group of masked individuals that broke into a home in Three Acres Trailer Court assaulting the owners with baseball bats and a hammer before making off with electronic equipment will spend the next 33 months behind bars after he was sentenced in Slave Lake Provincial Court last Wednesday.

The Arctic Ice Centre was full of Pee Wee teams and Pee Wee fans for a big tournament on the weekend. This was a Sunday game between Slave Lake and Whitecourt.

Winterhawks get four in Hinton
Weekend road trips to Hinton often spell bad news for the Slave Lake Winterhawks, but not this time. The ‘Hawks played a couple of games in the Heat’s barn and won both of them 8 - 5, despite a relatively short bench. The wins improved their record to 11 wins, one loss and no ties, good for a solid hold on first place in the league with four games left in the regular season.
Wolves improve grip on first place
Good news from the Wolves’ camp this week. Despite missing their coach and three players due to suspensions, Slave Lake’s Jr. ‘B’ team beat Sexsmith on Friday. By doing it they improved their chances of securing home ice advantage in the playoffs.
