Crash sends woman to hospital
A Slave Lake woman is lucky to be alive after her vehicle was broadsided by a semi tractor-trailer unit early Thursday morning.
Cpl. Peter Quilty of the Slave Lake RCMP says the woman’s vehicle caught the edge of the highway, and as she brought it back onto the road, she lost control, veering into the path of the on-coming semi.
Chief's resignation delays meeting on oilpatch
A meeting between oilpatch contractors, First Nations band and government officials will have to wait until at least March after Woodlands Cree First Nation Chief Melvin Laboucan resigned earlier this month.

It was a treat for Slave Lake fight fans to see Billy ‘The Kid’ Irwin in action. But when the internationally ranked Lightweight’s fight against Richard Howard of Guyana ended in less than two full rounds, it came down to the final bout to really give them their money’s worth.
Winterhawks shut out Edson Ice
The Slave Lake Winterhawks are looking more and more like a team that puts defense first. That might be hard to believe after all the run and gun offense they’ve displayed over the past few years, but Saturday’s win over the Edson Ice is more evidence.
