Band's quality of life the goal, says Chief
Bigstone Cree First Nation’s Chief Gordon Auger says people in the Slave Lake area need to realize that First Nations groups are acting within their legal right when they ask for remunerations for work that’s being done on their Traditional lands. And if they have to take the matter to the courts for decision, so be it. But the Supreme Court of Canada has already ruled that those treaty rights are valid, he added.
Giving the bullied a place to go
The Royal Canadian Legion and youth groups' chances for a secure home with room to grow are alive and well after Slave Lake Town councillors agreed to spend what will amount to $20,000 to keep the Legion open this year.

When the Slave Lake Wolves play hard and play smart, they are a very difficult team to handle. That’s what the Western Division leading Fort St. John Huskies found out on the weekend, losing 5 - 4 on Saturday and 8 - 6 on Sunday to the Wolves.
Atom Elks win Camrose tournament
The Slave Lake Atom ‘A’ Elks are having fun and earning the rewards for their dedication to hard work, teamwork and their true love of the game. All those were evident in the Elks’ victory in the Camrose ‘AA’ tournament on the July 17 weekend.
