Housing requisition spike shocks M.D., Town Councils
Shocked by requisitions that are one-and- two-thirds the size of last year’s request, councillors for the Municipal District of Lesser Slave River and their Town of Slave Lake counterparts looking for answers. And they’re demanding a meeting with the Slave Lake Housing Authority’s board and administration. That’s after the M.D. requisition jumped to $171,000 from $102,000 the previous year, and the Town’s requisition from the senior’s foundation went from about $48,000 to just over $78,000..

'I don't know what to say!'
That’s about all Gilwood Golf and Country Club President Carl Chykerda could say last weekend when Lesser Slave Lake MLA Pearl Calahasen handed him a $125,000 cheque. The money, he said, will pay for half the irrigation pond that the committee has included in its plans for the Back Nine project. The money is the first big donation the group’s received, he said, adding it’ll allow the group to complete the first phase this spring, “and our goal is to be golfing by spring 2005.” Standing with the duo are (l-r) Mayor Ray Stern, Joe Mouallem and Marilyn Dawson.

Winterhawks come close at provincials
Close. So close.
Slave Lake’s Winterhawks were a whisker away from winning the Alberta Senior ‘A’ Provincial Championships in Drayton Valley on the weekend. Tied 6 – 6 with Ft. MacLeod with under three minutes left, it could have gone either way.
Novice Elks win league title
Slave Lake teams finished first and second in the Sturgeon Pembina Novice East League this season. The playoffs wrapped up on Mar. 23 with the Slave Lake Elks beating the Slave Lake Jr. Hawks 6 – 4 for the championship.
