Blockade renews calls for intervention
There was much backslapping and kudos for Reeve Sheila Foley and her fellow councillors for the Municipal District of Lesser Slave River when the resolution they’d presented received unanimous support at the annual convention for the province’s M.D.s and counties last week.
Town wants 'deliverables' from Chamber
The Town needs to realize a bang for its’ buck, and last week Mayor Ray Stern asked the Slave Lake and District Chamber of Commerce get involved in various ventures in the community in return for the money it receives from the Town annually.

Dan Duke (#1) of the Edmonton Swass goes high for two over Peace River big man Steve Janz in the championship game of the Five-onFive basketball tournament on Sunday. Between them is Matt Hegworth and looking up are Mike Chapelsky of the Swass and the Sharks’ Trevor Heerschop. The Swass won the game 73 - 69.

Edmonton team wins Five-on-Five hoops
Basketball was the name of the game in Slave Lake on the weekend, with 13 teams in town for the second annual Five-on-Five tournament. Finishing on top of the heap was a team from Edmonton called the ‘Swass’.
Treaty 8 hosts 20-team hockey tournament
It was a big weekend for hockey in Slave Lake. Twenty teams competed in the Treaty 8 First Nations Cup that was actually three separate tournaments – men, women and oldtimers.
