If you’re hearing it from Mayor Ray Stern, there’s next to nothing for Slave Lake in the new provincial budget that Finance Minister Pat Nelson delivered last Tuesday.

Three years for 7-11 robbery
One of two men who disguised themselves before rushing in to the 7-Eleven convenience store waving weapons and demanding cash late last month will spend the next three years in a penitentiary after he pleaded guilty to robbery and wearing a disguise in Slave Lake Provincial Court last week.

Through no fault of their own, news of the Atom ‘A’ Elks’ Sturgeon Pembina League championship didn’t make the paper until this week. The Elks defeated Onoway in the final.

Atom 'A' Elks win league championship
Slave Lake’s Atom ‘A’ Elks roared through the regular season with a record of 16 wins, one loss and one tie. Things got a bit tougher in the playoffs, but the Elks came out on top in the end, finishing off Onoway with a double-overtime victory on Mar. 21.

Polar Bears finish season in style
Slave Lake’s winter swim club finished its season in Peace River on the first weekend of April with some good showings. According to a release from the club, the small contingent of Polar Bears “was a force to be reckoned with” at the meet.
