The Slave Lake’s Atom ‘A’ Elks roared through the regular season with a record of 16 wins, one loss and one tie. Things got a bit tougher in the playoffs, but the Elks came out on top in the end, finishing off Onoway with a double-overtime victory on Mar. 21.
The Elks got into the final by beating Whitecourt 11 – 6 in a two-game, total-goal series. Onoway won the first game of the final series 4 – 2 and the Elks came back to take the next one by the same score. That set up the big final, played at the Arctic Ice Centre in Slave Lake.
The game was as close as they get. The teams were tied 2 – 2 after one period, with the Slave Lake goals coming from Jordan Loroff and Taylor Riddoch. In the second the Elks took a 5 – 3 lead on goals by T.J. Foster, Colter Tkach and Loroff. But Onoway tied it up in the third. In the first period of overtime the Elks scored but the ref disallowed the goal. In the second overtime period Jordan Loroff got the winner with his third of the game, finishing off a great season for the Elks.
