Bird bander Jul Wojnowski clamps a band onto the leg of a hermit thrush at the Lesser Slave Lake Bird Observatory last Friday. Wojnowski is back as head bander at the migration monitoring station, catching and banding songbirds on their way north in the spring and on their way back south in late summer and fall.

'We were caught' - Simons
If Slave Lake’s water treatment plant upgrades had been completed a week or two earlier, chances are residents wouldn’t have had to boil their water for four days last week. And “as long as God doesn’t throw us something bigger than Alberta Environment standards,” they won’t face any more boil water orders any time in the foreseeable future, says deputy mayor Valerie Tradewell . She’s also the chair for the Property Services portfolio that oversees the water and wastewater treatment in this community.
Six run for Bigstone chief
The Bigstone Cree Nation will have a new chief this week. Six members were running for the position in the Tuesday, Apr. 29 by-election, including Gordon T. Auger, the most recent holder of the title.
