Slave Lake’s synchronized swimming team placed seventh of 11 Tier I teams at the provincial championships in Medicine Hat last month. It was the first year that the Indicas have competed at all, having been a recreational club up until last fall.
Competing individually, Denise Potvin placed third with her solo routine.
Two Indicas competed in another meet running concurrently with the provincials. Layna Sparks won second place with her solo routine and Taiya Ahola was third.
“Overall it was a success,” says Coach Trisha Poitras. “They showed great improvement in all figure scores.”
The club is presenting its annual Water Show at the Northern Lights Aquatic Centre on Sunday, May 11 at 4:00 p.m. Spectators get to see all the girls performing the routines and skills they’ve been working on all season.
Then on the last weekend of May, eight members of the competitive team will compete at the MASY (Manitoba, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Yukon) Challenge in Saskatoon.
