He’s been called the ‘anchor of health care’, ‘community supporter’, ‘physician’ and ‘friend’. And now Slave Lake’s Dr Paul Caffaro is being recognized as the community’s Citizen of the Year for 2002.

Group wants tougher smoking by-law
Slave Lake Town Council is considering a change to its smoking by-law. A group of Slave Lake citizens showed up at council’s May 6 meeting to make sure council has no doubts about the harmful effects of second hand smoke.

Seven-year-old Abby Riehl tries to snap a board with a side kick in a training session of the Slave Lake Tae Kwon Do Club last week. Abby along with several other members are preparing for this Saturday’s belt testing, and is hoping to move up to a different belt level. Holding the board are Dan Schmode and Bruce Whitney.

Slave Lake runners are making a habit of showing up in force at various Edmonton running events. The May 4 Sounds of Spring half-marathon was no exception, with Slave Lakers making up just under five per cent of the total.

Heat escape cold to play baseball
Slave Lake’s Sawridge Jr. Heat baseball team will start its season in Kamloops at an international tournament this weekend. The Heat actually left last week looking for sunnier weather to train in, after having their outdoor practices cut short by snow.
