Twelve teams compete in diabetes race

Off they go First-leg runners in the fourth annual Diabetes Road Race took off from the start line at the Sawridge Truckstop just after 7:00 a.m. on May 10. The race took them all the way to Wabasca. Money raised through pledges went to support Canadian Diabetes Association programs and also to local healthy living programs in Wabasca.
The Parkland Pavement Pounders of Onoway were the overall and competitive division winners in a time of nine hours and 50 minutes. The Metis Milers of Peavine were second in 10:08 and the Smoking Moccasins of Wabasca finished in 12 hours even. In the Recreational division, the Paul Band First Nation was first in 11:28, followed by Davidson Environmental/Slave Lake Health Complex in 11:36. Bigstone School was third in 11:53.
The event raised about $16,000.
