The Sawridge Jr. Heat won their first game of the men’s league season, but not by much. Playing against the Cardinals last Wednesday, the defending league champs needed a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to escape with an 8 – 7 victory.
Trailing 7 – 6, the Cardinals came up to bat in the top of the seventh against Josh Gryschuk. Gryschuk struck out two of the three men he faced, but Frank Boisvert connected with a fastball and sent it over the fence just inside the left field foul pole. It was his second home run of the game, having clobbered a grand slam earlier.
Scott Sinclair singled and stole second for the Heat in their half of the inning, and then came home on a hit by Fred Rivard.
Also on Wednesday the Kinuso Brewers got their first win of the season, walloping the Boss Pressure Red Sox 16 – 4 in Kinuso. Steve Gladue was the winning pitcher.
On Thursday Wabasca beat the Widewater Eagles 4 – 2. Two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, plus strong pitching by Greg Cardinal got the job done.
The Cardinals and the Heat played again on Thursday and this time it wasn’t close, at least not after four innings. The final score was 11 – 2 for the Heat, who are alone with two wins and no losses atop the standings. Joey Boisvert had the game’s only home run in a losing cause.
This week’s action features the Eagles versus the Heat and the Indians against the Cardinals tonight (Wednesday). On Thursday Kinuso tangles with the Eagles and Wabasca takes on the Red Sox.
