Slave Lake’s senior senior baseball team is off to a promising start. After coming close in a couple of previous games, the Cardinals earned their first two wins of the season last week in Southshore Men’s League action.
On Wednesday with Ken Olson on the hill the Cardinals beat the Widewater Eagles 5 – 3. Joey Boisvert knocked one over the fence in the winning cause and Ken Fournier homered for the Eagles.
On Thursday the Cardinals built an early 7 – 2 lead over the Boss Pressure Red Sox, squandered it and then got the win anyway on a seventh inning hit by Leonard Sinclair. Again the long ball played a role for the Cards – Frank the sultan of swat Boisvert clubbed his third or fourth of the season and Albert Bellerive hit one out too. The final score was 9 – 8 for the Cardinals.
On Wednesday the Slave Lake Jr. Heat beat Kinuso 11 – 0 in Kinuso. Blair Sinclair and Scott Sinclair combined for the shutout.
“We stank the joint out,” says Kinuso player Everett Samuelson.
The Heat remain undefeated and Kinuso fell to 2 and 2 on the season. Monday’s games were rained out.
