Lee Hunt wins Men's Open

Joe McWilliams
Lakeside Leader

High Prairie golfer Lee Hunt likes golfing at Gilwood. He’s won the Men’s Open there before and he did it again on the June 12 weekend, finishing 36 holes in 152 strokes, five better than John Keaveny of Slave Lake.
Keaveny’s 157 was in turn five shots clear of third place finisher Brad Whalen of High Prairie. Whalen was the defending champion.
Travis Dashkewytch had a pretty good day, leading the First Flight with a score of 162. Glenn Kennedy was second at 166 and Joey Boisvert third in 168.
Brian Hay led the Second Flight with a 165 score, ahead of Joe Schultz’s 167 and Scott Seatter’s 177.
In the Third Flight, Manny Meneen of Ft. Vermilion led with a 182 score. Chris Wickman was second at 185 and Tom MacDonald’s 190 was good for third place.
Stacy Paul was tops in the Fourth Flight with a 199 score. Duncan Fisk was second at 205 and Shawn Bogstie was third with a 210.
Hunt also won three of the four closest to the pin prizes in the two-day event. Other individual hole prize winners were David Lucyk, Larry Mitchell, Dan Lucyk, Glenn Kennedy, Brad Whalen, Mark Hunt, Wayne Hogan, Joey Boisvert, Doug Albers, John Ostapczuk and Duncan Fisk.
Gilwood Manager Mark Beckwith says the Open went well except for a couple of heavy rainshowers that interfered with play a bit. The field was about half from out of town, he says.
