Slave Lake, Alberta

The Page

So much for the old proof-reading system. Last week’s Page 24 story on the Canada World Youth program got cut off at the end. It matters because it contained Jan’s phone number for prospective host families to call him. So here it is – 805-6299.

Modesty prevents us from bragging about The Leader’s win in the NHL playoff pool Media Challenge. It was all Harry Bartlett’s idea anyway. But apparently one of The Leader’s entries finished in a tie for 43rd place with 147 points. That’s 15 points and 37 places higher than the second media entry, which belonged to Scope. Cable TV finished third with 123 points in 220th overall. Finally, the best KWA entry had 123 points, good for 324th overall.

Heads up, all you Texas scramblers. The Slave Lake Wolves are holding a golf tournament on July 5 to raise some money for the upcoming season. That’s what the new Wolves’ President Larry Leganchuk tells us. Larry and his executive are working hard to get the funds and the billets and the sponsors committed early for next season. So that’s Saturday, July 5 at 4:00 p.m. with a steak dinner included. “We’re hoping 80 people show up,” says Larry.

Hey! That introductory university English course at Northern Lakes College for students in Grade 12? It’s a bit undersubscribed. Harry Bartlett says they need four more registrations by June 30 to make it fly. And it isn’t restricted to Grade 12s. A mother and daughter are both signed up. It goes one evening a week, starting in September. Call Harry at 849-4042 or the college.
