Council chambers won't work as a theatre, says communiplex spokesman
“What Mayor Stern is proposing is a good idea, an exceptionally good idea.
“But to turn his council chambers into a performing arts centre is ludicrous.”
Those words last week from Wilf Long, spokesman for Slave Lake’s college expansion committee.
Southshore supports sewer system installation
After close to two hours of explanations -- and some heated exchanges, Southshore residents last week gave their municipal representatives thumbs up to proceed with a wastewater system that is expected to cost millions.

Felipe Barocio pounds around the Roland Michener track in training for his next race. He is looking to improve on his most recent 1:23 time in the half-marathon. His personal best over that distance is 1:14, which would have won the Edmonton Festival race last month.

Can't beat Heat in men's league
The Sawridge Heat upped their Southshore Men’s League record to 9 - 0 last week with a 10 - 2 victory over the Boss Pressure Red Sox. The Heat had a perfect game going for five innings, using five different pitchers, before the Sox managed to get some baserunners.
Two wins for Storm
The Slave Lake Storm continued their winning ways last week with two victories in the ladies fastball league. They improved their record to six wins and one loss – that loss coming at the hands of the Faust Silver Bullets.
