The Slave Lake Storm continued their winning ways last week with two victories in the ladies fastball league. They improved their record to six wins and one loss that loss coming at the hands of the Faust Silver Bullets.
The Storm were expecting a tough game from the Gift Lake Bunnies last Wednesday, and in fact the Bunnies made a game of it. But for the first few innings it was all Slave Lake. They were cruising with a 13 1 lead at one point, but in the latter innings the Bunny batters jumped all over Storm pitcher Ashley Kerr. They put up a dozen more runs, but the Storm kept scoring too and won the game by a 20 13 final.
Paulette Ward and Kerr shared the pitching duties.
On June 23 the Storm played at Whitefish Lake and won the game 17 7.
We were up quite a bit, says Storm player Marcie Petite. The last couple of innings they started to hit.
Ward and Michelle Ghostkeeper were the Storm pitchers in the game.
The Storm have five regular season games left, including one make-up game from June 2. Playoffs are scheduled to start on July 21.
This week the Storm host the Gift Lake Lakers on Wednesday at the Sinclair Fields in Slave Lake. On Monday they played the Grouard Hazzards in Grouard.
