The Slave Lake Storm had a world of trouble hitting the pitching of the Gift Lake Lakers last Wednesday. In the early innings at least, they could get nothing going at all against the hard, accurate tosses of the Lakers’ hurler.
The Lakers had scratched out a 2 – 0 lead and were rolling along when Lesley Emes finally connected on one of those hard pitches and sent it into the left field corner for a triple. She scored on a bad throw and the comeback was on track. The Storm went on to score six more in a 7 – 2 win and shut down the Lakers the rest of the way. Paulette Ward threw the whole game for her team’s seventh win of the season against just one loss.
According to Coach Brian Bouchard, Leanne Masur had an especially good game for the Storm, and Ashley Kerr did well catching her first game of the season.
The Storm have only one home game remaining in the regular season. That’s on Monday, July 14 against High Prairie. They have four road games, including two make-up games to get in before playoffs start on July 21. Playoffs will be on weeknights the same as regular season games. This weekend they play in a 12-team tournament in High Prairie.
