Men’s league playoffs prolonged

The Southshore Men’s Baseball League playoffs were supposed to end last Friday. But rain on Wednesday pushed the schedule back and now the earliest they can end is this Tuesday night (July 22).
If the Boss Pressure Red Sox beat the winner of the Cardinals – Wabasca semi-final on Tuesday night, it’s all over and the Sox have their first ever league championship. If they lose Tuesday, then there’ll be one more game for all the marbles.
Here’s how it happened.
The playoffs started on Monday, July 14. On that night the Sox beat the Widewater Eagles (home runs by Keith Sinclair and Trevor Vance) 7 – 3. On the other diamond, the Wabasca Indians downed the Kinuso Brewers 3 – 1.
On Tuesday, the Sox beat the Cardinals 4 – 2 and Kinuso beat the Eagles 7 – 4, knocking them out of the playoffs.
On Wednesday, the Sox and Wabasca got three innings in before the storm hit. The Cardinals and Kinuso got as far on the other diamond. Thursday night they finished things off, with the Sox getting the 18 – 4 win and the Cardinals eliminating Kinuso 10 – 3.
With three wins and no losses, the Red Sox move directly to the final. On the ‘B’ side of the draw, the Cardinals and Indians must battle it out to see who gets to play the Sox. In the final, the ‘A’ winner only has to win once. The ‘B’ winner must beat the Sox twice to earn the championship. Anything could happen.
“We’re a fifth place team,” says Red Sox Manager Harry Bartlett. “We just happen to be getting some good pitching and hitting at this point. That 18 – 4 (score) doesn’t reflect a normal game between the Sox and Wabasca by any means.”
The Cardinals and Wabasca played Monday night for the right to advance to the final.
Whoever wins it will be a new champion for the league. The Eagles have won it numerous times and Kinuso won it once or twice. Last year the Jr. Heat took the crown.
