After a couple of years off the popular RCMP/Victim Services Golf Classic is making a comeback. Word from Cpl. Peter Quilty and Evelyn Norberg of Victim Services is that the texas scramble event goes on Friday, Aug. 22 at 12:30 p.m., to be followed by a steak dinner and loads of prizes. Proceeds from the tournament go to help Victim Services and the United Way of Slave Lake. For more info contact the RCMP at 849-3045.

Nice to see Bill and Donna Baergen and Barb Tarney back at their riverside cabins.
Bill tells us he’s co-editing a collection of 40 years of newspaper columns by a Rimbey-area naturalist whose name we forget. We’ll get back to you on the guy’s name and the title of the book.

So here we are in Joe's first week of holidays. Readers, of course know that means perpetual whining from some other staff members (i.e., the ones who are lousy at writing sports) along with desperate pleas for sports news, any kind of sports news. You know the drill, call 849-4380 or send us the info by fax to 849-3903, or via e-mail to leader@inetnorth.net.

And just in case there were some local residents who were getting ready to go to worship under the Big Top in coming weeks, please be advised that event has been cancelled.
