A CL215 air tanker drops its load onto the Mitsue fire Wednesday afternoon. The blaze, sparked by a bear that was thought to have been chased up a power pole and touched the wire, began about one kilometre west of the industrial park. It was brought under control by Friday.

Team snuffs Mitsue wildfire
The quick response by individuals, industry and the province’s forest protection personnel last week is being credited for snuffing a wildfire that could have cut power to not only the Mitsue Industrial Park east of Slave Lake, but also to Nipisi oilfields, some 100 km north of this community.

Heat in semis at Jr. provincials
The Sawridge Heat Jr. ‘AAA’ baseball team was just starting a semi-final game at the provincial championships as this paper went to print. Playing in Ft. Saskatchewan, the Heat had made it to Monday morning’s semis in a somewhat unusual fashion, but was there nevertheless, against a talented Edmonton team.
Storm two up on Gift Lake in fastball playoffs
Two games into their first-ever playoff series, Slave Lake’s Ladies’ fastball team is in the drivers’ seat. It hasn’t been easy at all, but the Storm were up two games to none in the best-of-five series at the start of the week.
