You never know who will walk into the office with a story to tell. Last week it was Sean Collins of California, who claims to be involved in a bid to install a cable television system in Vietnam, of all places. He’s is in town for the graduation of his niece Natasha Onyschuk. She wants to fly jet planes, says uncle Sean.

Well, what was all that fuss over the Rolling Stones playing in Toronto last week? Musically they were sloppy and lazy, playing those great rock tunes as if it didn’t really matter how they sounded. You can’t blame the band for all the hype, but since the hype exists, they could make more effort to live up to it. Credit to the rockin’ grandpas for showing up to help Toronto out, but no credit to the press which treats them like the gods they aren’t, or to the fans who don’t seem to realize these guys are way, way, past their ‘best-before’ date. Wake up!!! Put on a CD and listen to how those songs are really supposed to sound. Or listen to a Stones cover band. The last one that played in Slave Lake sounded much better than the Stones themselves in concert. They were once a great band – at least in the studio. Live? Whatever it is people get so excited about at those shows, it can’t be the music, ‘cause it’s a lousy copy of the real thing.

Anybody happen to notice that interview in a recent issue of the Edmonton Sun with Cpl. Don Ray who’s currently on temporary foreign assignment in Sierra Leone?? The photo is a little misleading because he’s standing beside a sign that says ‘Welcome to Liberia’. And for those who haven’t been keeping score, that’s one bad place to be these days.
Anyway, Don’s wife Janet says all’s well with Don -- and will be even better PDQ when the whole family -- Janet and the kids and Don -- have a short reunion in England.
Have fun guys, and don’t forget that extra serving of bug spray -- and anti-venom serum we sent with you to give Don!
