'Get rid of the lawyers'
If the Alberta government wants to find a resolution of the dispute that’s been simmering in the oilpatch for several years, the first most important step is to “get rid of the lawyers” that represent both the province and contractors. That was the word Wednesday afternoon when Lesser Slave Lake MLA Pearl Calahasen met with councilors for the M.D. of Lesser Slave River.

MLA knew about blockade
Hours after MLA Pearl Calahasen told councillors for the Municipal District of Lesser SLave River that she had no knowledge of a blockade that took place at Nipisi two weeks earlier, and that she had no idea the Northern Oilfield Contractors Association had fired the same legal counsel that's been meeting with a lawyer appointed by her department, Contractors association reps were countering her claim.

Trent Lizee wins Gilwood Jr. Open
Trent Lizee was three strokes out of the lead after the front nine at the Gilwood Junior Open Golf Tournament on Aug. 25. But the High Prairie golfer turned it around on the back nine, turning in a two-over 38 for an 18-hole score of 79. That was tops in his 15 and over age group and best overall in the field of 33.

Heat come up short at Westerns

Two losses plus one win does not equal a championship. Nor is it a disaster, although the Sawridge Heat were hoping for better things at the Western Canadian Jr. ‘AAA’ Championships in Ft. Saskatchewan last month. As it is they had two good games and one bad one to end what was a pretty good season.
