Scotia bank and ATB (Alberta Treasury Branch) employees ‘mixed it up’ when the giant Heart and Stroke bike came to town last week -- with Scotia employees raising $13,300. Close to $6,000 came from the Scotia employees, a total that was matched by corporate headquarters.

Oilfield contractors optimistic
While he’s short on specifics, the secretary-treasurer for the Northern Oilfield Contractors Association says he’s optimistic that group will have at least a partial answer to its dilemma in the next two weeks. At least it’ll have some direction on the part of the dilemma that’s in the provincial government’s court.

Curling club the latest sports facility in trouble
Facing bills totaling $45,000, the Slave Lake Curling Club couldn’t afford to pay its insurance this year, and the club threw itself at the mercy of Town fathers last week, begging for a break.

Sharline Ray of the Roland Michener Rams (right) and Isabel Wolff of the Kinuso Lady Knights battle at the net in a volleyball game on Saturday. The Rams hosted the mini-tournament which Kinuso won. Also participating were the St. Mary of the Lake Huskies and the Mistassiniy Mustangs.

Council allocates $25,000 for arena roof repairs
With the engineer’s verdict due yesterday (Tuesday, Sept. 23) afternoon, Slave Lake Town councillors agreed last week to spend as much as $25,000 for a temporary fix for the roof of the Artic Ice Centre. That was after Councillor George Snider reported they could be facing minor repairs this fall and more extensive ones in the spring.

Tough news for late Midgets registrations

With 55 players registered in the Midget division of minor hockey in Slave Lake, there just isn’t room for any more.
