With the engineer’s verdict due yesterday (Tuesday, Sept. 23) afternoon, Slave Lake Town councillors agreed last week to spend as much as $25,000 for a temporary fix for the roof of the Artic Ice Centre. That was after Councillor George Snider reported they could be facing minor repairs this fall and more extensive ones in the spring.
Chair for the community services portfolio, Snider said minor repairs would be needed to get the facility in service “in the very near future.”
Agreeing, Community Services director Farrell O’Malley said initial reports reveal minor repairs will be enough to ensure the roof can withstand the winter snow load. Major repairs can be done in the spring.
Councillors unanimously supported Councillor Evelyn Norberg’s motion to spend up to $25,000 on repairs this fall.
