Woman blames RCMP for 'misleading' report

Police reports that said a Wabasca stabbing victim’s life wasn’t threatened by the Sept. 20 incident were ‘very misleading’, says the 18-year-old’s sister. In fact, hours after the teen was released from hospital, arrested and lodged in RCMP cells, he was on life support being medivaced to an Edmonton hospital.
“They were in such a hurry to have him stitched up, bandaged up and kicked out of hospital so the police could arrest him” someone failed to notice the knife attack had collapsed the teen’s lung and he was bleeding internally, Lisa Beauregard told The Leader last week. She said police arrested her brother – the knifing victim — because of outstanding warrants for his arrest.
“And police were telling the media he didn’t have life-threatening injuries.”
The attack happened at about 4:30 in the morning, but it wasn’t until 5:00 that afternoon that someone at the detachment discovered the teen unresponsive in cells.
He was rushed back to hospital in Desmarais where he was placed on life support and medivaced to the Royal Alexandra hospital.
“He was in cells a whole day,” says Beauregard, but it wasn’t until late that afternoon someone realized the teen was in serious distress.
While he was on life support, the 18-year-old suffered a severe stroke, his sister added.
That left him in wheelchair, and late last week he was still at the Edmonton hospital.
”They’re monitoring him closely and say he could suffer another stroke.
“And he’ll need extensive therapy “ if he’s to regain use of his legs, Beauregard added.
“I just don’t think the RCMP should tell the media that my brother’s injuries weren’t life-threatening when he ended up on life support – and is still in a wheelchair.”
