Slave Lake, Alberta

The Page

Here’s word of former Slave Lake residents Lesley and Don Geiger, who are living in Strathmore. Marilyn Larivee dropped in last week to let us know that Lesley is doing fine, is working at a women’s shelter and is going on a tropical cruise with Don this winter.
(Of course she misses Slave Lake terribly.)

More on that Heritage Hockey Classic ticket contest, in case you missed it last week: Weyerhaeuser has 10 tickets to the big outdoor game between the Edmonton Oilers and the Montreal Canadiens on Nov. 22 in the company box.
They want the tickets to go to a few of Slave Lake’s finest unsung volunteers – the people who work hard for no pay to make this community a better place.
Who are they? Write us a paragraph or two explaining why this or that person is an unsung volunteer and get it in to The Leader by Oct. 31. Oh, and don’t forget provide contact info for your nominees.

And for anyone who thought last year’s Rotary Club toga party was fun, “you ain’t seen nothin’ yet!”
This time around the Rotarians are holding a Halloween/Oktoberfest fundraiser dinner and party at The Point Steakhouse.
It’s on Sunday, Oct. 26, and for goodness sake, come dressed up! The get-together is to raise funds for the Rotary’s Kids’ Christmas Party in December, which the club expects will host about 800 kids.
Tickets to the big shindig at The Point will be on sale very soon from your local Rotary Club member.

And in case you don’t get enough wear of that great Halloween costume at the Rotary’s Halloween bash at The Point Steakhouse on Oct. 26, there’s always the Kinettes adult Halloween party, Fri, Oct 31, from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. at the Elks hall.
Kinette Terri Pukanich says there’ll be cash prizes for the best costumes, and the $10 tickets are available at Pharmasave, Lakeside Office Supplies and from any Kinette.
