It’s clearly been a good year for Brussels sprouts in Slave Lake – at least this plant gave up enough of the tiny cabbages for a decent meal, says ‘green thumb’ Connie McWilliams. She says they can withstand a heavy frost, but also admits it’s the first time she’s grown them in Alberta.

Winterhawks wallop Whitecourt in season opener
Whoever challenges the Slave Lake Winterhawks for their North Central Hockey League title this season, it won’t be the Whitecourt Cats. Not unless they get a lot better than they looked on Saturday night in the season-opener for both teams.

Wolves bounce back with Sunday win over Grande Prairie

The Slave Lake Wolves got their third win of the season on Sunday, beating the Grande Prairie Wheelers 9 – 6 in their own barn. Coming after a frustrating 5 – 1 loss the night before in Beaverlodge, the win was just the right thing to salvage a weekend on the road.
