Flu closes lodge, health complex
A potentially deadly flu – Influenza ‘A’ — struck Slave Lake last week, forcing the Vanderwell Heritage Place – and the community’s health complex to close their doors to visitors after doctors confirmed three cases and had their suspicions about another 13 a day earlier.

Winterhawks wallop Whitecourt in season opener
Whoever challenges the Slave Lake Winterhawks for their North Central Hockey League title this season, it won’t be the Whitecourt Cats. Not unless they get a lot better than they looked on Saturday night in the season-opener for both teams.
Wolves bounce back with Sunday win over Grande Prairie
The Slave Lake Wolves got their third win of the season on Sunday, beating the Grande Prairie Wheelers 9 – 6 in their own barn. Coming after a frustrating 5 – 1 loss the night before in Beaverlodge, the win was just the right thing to salvage a weekend on the road.
