AUPE members take their fight to Main Street
A dozen or so members of the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) hunkered down in the face of snow and driving winds in Slave Lake Wednesday (Dec. 3) to denounce the province’s proposed one per cent pay hike in the contract talks. Wearing placards saying “1% is insulting”, and “What was Ralph thinking?”, they walked up and down Main Street in front of their offices in Lakeland Centre, and were rewarded with honks of support from many drivers passing by.
Caucus accepts partial solution in the oilpatch
The province last week endorsed seven recommendations that could put to rest disputes over Crown lands work in the oilpatch. And while both First Nations and contractors’ representatives say the document has hope, neither applauded every item in John McCarthy’s report.

Jasper vs. the Winterhawks: who's better?
The upstart Jasper Wolves come to Slave Lake this weekend for two games against the defending North Central Hockey League champion Slave Lake Winterhawks. It should be the best Senior hockey fans have seen this year, because as of this writing, Jasper was undefeated at six wins and no losses. The Winterhawks had won as many games, but lost one.
