Vertech Consulting skip Duane Verschoor eyes the line of a shot late in the ‘A’ Final against Option Machine in the Oilmen’s Bonspiel on Sunday. Needing to score two in the eighth end to tie the game, Verschoor couldn’t solve the wall of guards out in front and ended up losing 5 - 2 to the foursome from Drayton Valley.

Tolko takeover official
The Tolko takeover of Weyerhaeuser’s Slave Lake oriented strandboard operation was completed on Feb. 27. On Mar. 1 and 2, the top management of the new owner was in town to meet and talk to employees, as well as meeting the public.
Tag-a-bag on the front burner
Slave Lake Town Council is reviewing the garbage collection system, and it looks as if changes are on the way. Specifically, residents could see a bag limit for weekly garbage pick-up, as well as a requirement for garbage to be put out in solid containers, rather than bags.

Option Machine Oilmen's winners again
Keith Mielke has been to the top of the Slave Lake Oilmen’s before, and there he was again Sunday afternoon. Mielke, the Skip for the Option Machine rink of Drayton Valley, led his team to a 5 - 2 ‘A’ Event victory over Vertech Consulting to capture the 40th annual Oilmen’s Bonspiel.
Winterhawks lose! Series tied at two
Stranger things have happened, but it’s hard to remember when or where. After crushing the Jasper Wolves in the first two games of the North Central Hockey League final series, the Winterhawks went to Jasper on the weekend and lost both games.
