She kept them guessing all night, but when was said and done, officials discovered that Flo (played here by Sheila Allen) was the murderess who’d done the dastardly deed. The Slave Lake Municipal Library board bade a fond farewell to its longtime librarian through speeches and the mystery theatre on the weekend. After 17 or so years on the job, Anne McMeekin’s last official day at the library is today, Mar. 31.

Thinking about library amalgamation
Councillors for the Municipal District of Lesser Slave River have followed the lead of their Town of Slave Lake counterparts as they work with Northern Lakes College officials to decide whether they’ll push for libraries in Slave Lake to become a single entity.

Nurses union still negotiating
Nurses in Slave Lake are pleased that their employer has agreed with a union request to extend their settlement deadline until June 15, saying the move will allow the two sides to come to a “negotiated, not arbitrated agreement.”

Sports Highlights

Winterhawks’ forwards Jason Green (#13) and Scott Lawrence make life difficult for Jasper Wolves’ goalie Talbot Peyton in Sunday’s Provincial ‘B’ championship final. Lawrence scored twice in a 10 - 2 Slave Lake victory. The Bonnyville Pontiacs won the ‘A’ championship.

Winterhawks are Provincial 'B' champs
The Slave Lake Winterhawks and their fans thought this might be the year for a Provincial ‘A’ championship, but it wasn’t in the cards. The host team for the provincials had to settle for the ‘B’ championship, which after all is a pretty good accomplishment.

Midgets go 2 - 2 at provincials
There was more than one championship hockey game played in Slave Lake on Sunday. The Winterhawks might have won their playoff final, but the Novice Junior Winterhawks set the example with a big 9 – 3 win over Athabasca earlier in the day.
