Attempted murder, arson in Chip Lake
Police in Desmarais have charged a 39-year-old Chipewyan Lake man with attempted murder, arson and assault with a weapon after a fire in that community sent another Chipewyan Lake man to the University of Alberta hospital with third degree burns.
M.D.'s taxes flat
Vowing to ignore a promised $200,000 GST windfall until it’s money in the bank, and staring down the need for almost $10 million this year, councillors for the Municipal District of Lesser Slave River endorsed a new mill rate bylaw last week, accepting the first tax rate increase in many years. But that’s only the non-residential ratepayers who are expected to help pay for a new stretch of upgrades on the Old Smith highway this summer.

Synchronized swimmers put on a show
The Slave Lake Indicas synchronized swimming club has its season finale on Saturday at the Northern Lights Aquatic Centre. The year-end water show will feature the routines and figures the Indicas used at the recent provincial championships in Edmonton.
