Voters in the Athabasca riding don’t have to wait for June 28 to vote, Elections Canada spokesperson Lorrette Chouinard announced in Slave Lake last week. In fact, eligible Canadians from anywhere in the country can vote any day now – by merely dropping in at the Elections Canada office in this community and filling out some forms.

Acclaim buys Chevron Texaco
Acclaim Energy Trust and Enerplus Resources fund have announced their intentions to take over all of ChevronTexaco conventional oil and natural gas interests in western Canada. The two, plus an unnamed third party will spend $1.089 billion on the purchas.

Eagles lead after first week of baseball
The Widewater Eagles are back in familiar territory after the first week of play in the Southshore Men’s Baseball League. Not that a one-point lead after two games is much to shout about, but first place is first place.

Soccer teams compete in Millwoods
Four Slave Lake soccer teams played in the huge Millwoods tournament on the May long weekend, and made a good account of themselves. Their overall record was 10 losses, four wins and two ties.
