A 69-year-old construction worker died last Saturday (May 29) when he fell head first off some scaffolding at the Slave Lake Pulp Mill.
Slave Lake RCMP say Donald S. Gullickson of Williams Lake, British Columbia died as he attempted to bolt together some steel beams. He was a contact worker employed by DSI Mill Ltd., and was on his first day at the site.
Cpl. Don Murray from the Slave Lake detachment said that office is investigating the matter with the Workplace Health and Safety branch of Human Resources Development.
Public Affairs officer Chris Chodan with Alberta Human Resources and Employment says the worker fell head first off the scaffold and was pronounced dead on site. An investigation by that office continued late last week.
It’s the second time in less than a month that Workplace Health and Safety has been called to investigate incidents in this area.
Late last month investigators were called after a flag person at a highway sealing site on Hwy. 2 was struck by a passing motorist about 14 km west of this community. Charges in that matter could be forthcoming.
