Somebody (probably Steve Lane) sent us a list of ‘literary putdowns’ a few months back. We had forgotten all about it and came across it the other day looking for something else. Some of them are pretty good, so we thought we’d share ‘em with you.
“I feel so miserable without you; it’s almost like having you here.” – Stephen Bishop
“A modest little person, with much to be modest about.” – Winston Churchill
“I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure.” – Clarence Darrow
“Thank you for sending me a copy of your book. I’ll waste no time reading it.” – Moses Hadas
“He had delusions of adequacy.” – Walter Kerr
“I’ve had a perfectly wonderful evening. But this wasn’t it.” – Groucho Marx
“He loves nature in spite of what it did to him.” – Forrest Tucker
“I didn’t attend the funeral. But I sent a nice letter saying I approved of it.” – Mark Twain.

So for those who didn’t know, RCMP Const. Carson Creaser and his lovely wife Jeanette have moved on..all the way to Desmarais, Alberta, that is.
They made the move by choice, and waving off all praises about commitment to the north and crime-fighting, Carson insisted it was “all about money” and the fact that after two years or so at that posting, the officer and his nurse wife will pretty much be able to write their own tickets.
Besides, he added when we saw him at court last week, they’ll be back regularly. (Actually, Carson, rumour has it that your former co-workers at the detachment are waiting for you to really move so they can have a little party of their own. ONLY JOKING!!!

This may appear elsewhere, but the more places the better. The Chamber called us on Friday to say there will be an all-candidates forum on Wednesday, June 16th at the Northwest Inn at 6:30 p.m. As of last Friday, Conservative Brian Jean, Liberal Doug Faulkner and Green Party candidate Ian Hopfe were confirmed for that date. New Democrat Robert Cree had not confirmed his attendance by press time.
