Principal Lorelli Barbutza (r) will retire from her position at the top this year, but her name will echo in the halls at C.J. Schurter School forever after officials at the school dedicated an entire wing in her name last week. The sign comes compliments of a high school art teacher who wants to remain anonymous, shop teachers Tom Bergersen and Rick Pratt, and Norm Gall. Presenting the sign to the beloved principal is Heather Labrie.

School broke all the rules
A woman whose son was assaulted and made the brunt of what she believes was a mindless criminal stunt says administrators at the school and High Prairie School Division didn’t go far enough when they dealt with the students who attacked her son. In fact, they broke all their own rules, she alleges, and their actions left her son humiliated and terrified to return to school.

Pee Wees host provincial play this weekend
Slave Lake’s Pee Wee Cubs boys baseball team has been active and will be for some time yet, as they participate in provincial round robin play. This weekend, July 3 and 4 they host a couple of other teams in provincial round robin play, hoping to qualify for the provincial championships.

Parity came back to the Southshore Men’s Baseball League with a vengeance last week. Three teams that had been struggling a bit came to life with two, two and three wins each and the only undefeated team dropped two straight.
