A llama surveys what used to be a thick stand of poplars in his pasture at Jim Anderson’s farm, days after a wind storm felled truckloads of trees and removed fences on the property. As late as last Thursday Anderson was still hauling away debris from his yard.

Storm sounded like a freight train
It might have been a tornado, or just a severe wind and hail event. But a storm that narrowly missed Hondo and Smith but flattened gardens, crops and even mature stands of spruce along Otter Creek Road east of Smith last weekend won’t be forgotten for some time – especially by those who heard and felt its fury.
Camper runs over friend
Slave Lake RCMP pulled an apparently suicidal woman off the railroad tracks last Wednesday (July 14) as a train approached.
She was unharmed, but faces five charges in Slave Lake Provincial Court this Wednesday.
