The Widewater Eagles are back in the championship final of the Southshore Men’s Baseball League, after defeating the Kinuso Brewers last week in a close game. The Eagles overcame a three-run deficit after five innings to take the game 7 – 5.
The Eagles took an early 1 – 0 lead in the game, but it didn’t last long. Kinuso knocked in a few off Scott Sinclair in the second to take the lead, which they held until Widewater finally got one back in the sixth. Two more runs in the seventh tied the game and sent it into extra innings.
The trend continued in the eighth, with the Eagles scoring twice to take the lead for good.
Kyle Hansen had a strong game at the plate, going three for three with a double, two singles and a walk. Kinuso had chances late in the game, but couldn’t cash in runners on base.
This Wednesday, Aug. 4, the Eagles tangle with the defending champion Boss Pressure Red Sox in the final of the double knockout playoff tournament.
If the Sox win, it’s all over. If the Eagles win, the teams will play one more on Thursday.
