The season is over for the Slave Lake Storm. The women’s fastball team lost three games to one last week to the Gift Lake Extreme in their semi-final playoff series.
Tied at a game apiece heading into last week’s play, the Storm traveled to Gift Lake for Game 3 on July 27 where things didn’t go that well. They lost by about eight runs.
Back home on Wednesday the game was much closer, but the result was the same. A 13-12 Extreme win and a trip for them into the final against either Whitefish or Faust.
The Storm’s last game was close all the way.
“It was a tight game with a few errors that cost the game,” says shortstop Trina Vercholuk. “Gift Lake was hitting well and we were just holding our own.”
Ashley Kerr started the game for Slave Lake and Paulette Ward finished it off. The Storm battled back to within one run, but that was as close as they got.
“It was a great season,” says Vercholuk, “and the level of ball is getting better and better.”
