Smoking vote would give council a 'sniff'
To ban (smoking) or not to ban? That’s the question that Slave Lake’s Town council is expected to ask residents during municipal elections in October’s general election.

Man missing, presumed drowned
The search for a missing Falher area man continues in the narrows of Lesser Slave Lake this week. The man – whose name RCMP have not released – fell overboard on Aug. 1 while fishing. He wasn’t wearing a life jacket and police believe alcohol may have been a factor.

Boss Pressure repeats as baseball champion
Last Friday was a lousy night for baseball, but it turned out to suit the Boss Pressure Red Sox just fine. The Sox beat the Widewater Eagles 7 – 3 to win the Southshore Men’s Baseball League title for the second straight year.

Sharks head to regional, provincial meets
Twenty-one members of the Slave Lake Sharks swim club will shoot for the medal podium when they take part in Grande Prairie’s two-day regional meet this weekend. And the top two finishers in each category will represent the region at a provincial meet at Edmonton’s Kinsmen Sport Centre Aug. 20, 21 and 22.
