Not even the mud, greasy roads nor swollen streams generated by weeks of rain were enough to keep 40-odd quad-riders from their fun Saturday as Slave Lake’s Rotary club hosted its annual quad rally that made its way from the intersection of Hwys. 2 and 88 to the Grizzly Ridge ski trails and back. The run offered unlimited amounts of mud, mega give-aways and a 50-50 purse that earned Edward Collins a cool $430 from Rotary President Tyler Warman.

Arena roof could cost $750,000
There will be no more consultants’ reports on what to do about the Arena #1 roof at the Arctic Ice Centre. Not if Mayor Ray Stern gets his way, and after a lively debate at Slave Lake Town council’s Sept. 7 meeting, it looks like he will.
Wolves coaching vacancy still not filled
With the season opener just a couple of weeks away, the Slave Lake Wolves Jr. ‘B’ club still doesn’t have a head coach. At least they didn’t at press time, which means they might go into this weekend’s exhibition games against Beaumont without a bench boss.
