Thursday was sod-turning day for the Boreal Centre for Bird Conservation, a $1.6 million research, education and tourism facility to be built over the next several months in Lesser Slave Lake Provincial Park. On hand with the golden shovels were (l. to r.) Lesser Slave Lake Bird Observatory Chair Bob Deacon, Lesser Slave MLA Pearl Calahasen and Community Development Minister Gene Zwozdesky.

Big crowd at Town candidates' forum
It was called a forum and not a debate, and with good reason. With eighteen candidates attending the Oct. 6 session at the Northwest Inn, there wasn’t much opportunity for would-be mayors and councillors to square off against each other.

Slave Lake is more expensive than many of its neighbours. On average, what you buy in the Town or the Municipal District of Lesser Slave River will cost you 4.1% more than it would in Edmonton.

The Slave Lake Midget Storm (in white) had their chances against Edson on Sunday. But on this one the puck bounced the wrong way. Edson won the game 15 - 5. On Saturday the Storm lost 8 - 5 in Westlock.
