Slave Lakers voted in big numbers for a total political outsider in the Oct. 18 election, putting adult education worker Karina Pillay-Kinnee into the mayor’s chair. They returned three incumbent councillors to work with her and elected three novices as well.

Winterhawks pound Fox Creek twice
The Slave Lake Winterhawks earned their first two wins of the season on the weekend by clobbering the Fox Creek Bandits by a combined score of 22 – 3. It’s going to be another long season for the Bandits.

Wolves still looking for first win
The Slave Lake Wolves are showing signs of being a good team, according to their manager Wayne Sarginson. It’s in those stretches when they lose their composure that they get all the goals scored against them.
