Calahasen re-elected
Pearl Calahasen has been re-elected as the MLA for Lesser Slave Lake by a wide margin, with nearly 65 per cent of the votes cast in her favour after 54 of 60 polls have been counted.

Voter turnout reaches new low
Conventional wisdom says a low voter turnout favours the incumbent. Big numbers at the polls indicate a fired up electorate eager to make change happen. Change didn’t happen in the Lesser Slave Lake riding in last Monday’s provincial election.

'It's just going crazy'
There have been threats and rumours of development across and along Hwy. 2 in Slave Lake for years. But since they started about a decade ago, nothing much outside of a bit of earth moving ever happened. Now it seems the Wal-Mart speculation has sparked a rush of development proposals of a more concrete nature.

Winterhawks escape Fox Creek ambush
Used to winning by six or eight goals, the Slave Lake Winterhawks appeared unready for the Fox Creek Bandits on Saturday. They escaped with a win by the hair of their chinny-chin-chins, by hanging on to a one-goal lead for the entire third period.

Wolves pounded on the road
Things don’t seem to get any easier for the Wolves. Slave Lake’s Jr. ‘B’ team was back on the road this past weekend against two powerhouse teams and got thumped good.
