MLA earns fifth term
Pearl Calahasen, the Progressive Conservative candidate, was re-elected as the MLA for Lesser Slave Lake by a wide margin in last Monday’s election. After all the polls were counted, she had received 3,894 votes, 65 per cent of all ballots cast in the riding. Her nearest competitor, Alberta Alliance candidate Valerie Rahn, received 977 votes, or 16 per cent of the vote.

Environmental group challenges Tolko CSA certification
Tolko Slave Lake came indirectly under fire from the environmental camp in late October. That’s when the Sierra Club of Canada launched an appeal of the company’s Canadian Standards Association (CSA) certification.

Wolves finally bust out of losing streak
After two months of losing, the Slave Lake Wolves broke into the win column Saturday night. They did it with a determined performance against the team just ahead of them in the standings, the Moberly Lake Icemen. They did it by scoring four goals in the third period when they really needed them.

Cats claw Hawks
So much for home ice advantage. The Slave Lake Winterhawks beat the Drayton Valley Wildcats in Drayton Valley a couple of weeks ago, but couldn’t do it at home on Saturday. They lost 8 – 6.
