By all accounts, the Wolves deserved a win in Sexsmith on Friday night. They took the play to the Vipers but ended up losing anyway, 6 – 5.
The next night at home against the Peace River Navigators they got hammered 12 – 3. They played decently for about half that time, but the time in between was so bad it cost them 10 goals.
Scoring results for the Sexsmith game were not available by press time. Billy Beaudry got the start in goal and was not as sharp as he could have been, according to an eyewitness account.
On Saturday night the Wolves came out hard and took the early lead but the Navigators turned it up a couple of notches and at mid-period started a scoring run that lasted 30 minutes and put them up 10 – 1. It looked as if they were on the powerplay for most of that time. In the third the Wolves restored the balance a bit and matched the Peace River scoring with a pair.
Dane Boisvert, Darryl Garon and Justin Dunlop were the goal scorers for Slave Lake. Sanford Lamouche started in goal, gave way to Beaudry and then went back in for the third.
Peace River outshot Slave Lake 52 – 23.
The Wolves were missing James Leganchuk and Blair Sinclair due to illness.
The Wolves finish off the 2004 schedule this weekend with games in Dawson Creek and Fort St. John.
