Congratulations to Bertha Giroux of Kinuso, AB and her new born baby Keegan Marcus Theodore Giroux! Little Keegan was the first baby of 2005 born in the Slave Lake health complex. He arrived at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 4., and weighed 7 lbs. ¾ oz. Keegan already has a big brother to look out for him, Trey Reily, three. As the New Year’s baby, Keegan and his mother received gifts from local businesses.

Boisvert's closing its doors after 50 years
One of Slave Lake’s oldest – if not its oldest – businesses is closing its doors after 48 years, apparently the first victim of the ‘big box’ store era in Slave Lake. Boisvert’s Super ‘A’ has been selling groceries and drygoods in Slave Lake since Leo and Stella Boisvert set up shop in the mid-1950s.

When the tsunami hit the coast of Tamil Nadu in India, on Dec. 26, it swept pilgrims at the Velankanni Roman Catholic Church out to sea.

Winterhawks make hamburger of Jasper Wolves
It seemed ages since the last Senior hockey game in Slave Lake (it was Nov. 27). Fans who turned up hoping for something exciting didn’t exactly get what they came for, as the Winterhawks pulverized the Jasper Wolves by scores of 9 – 2 and 15 – 0.
Wolves drop one in Chetwynd
One of the two teams the Wolves have beaten this year was more than a match for the Slave Lake team on the weekend. The Wolves mounted a comeback, but the Moberly Lake Icemen beat them 5 – 2 on Saturday. On Sunday five Wolves played in the all-star game in Sexsmith.
