Saan's future uncertain
The discount signs that went up for Christmas sales have yet to be taken down and will likely stay up now.
The SAAN clothing store on 2nd Avenue N.W. in Slave Lake is selling off all its stock and employees are waiting to find out if it will be closed forever.
Wal-Mart still waffling - at least in public
Wal-Mart Canada continues to be coy about its intentions for Slave Lake, even when the writing is on the wall. Last week a company spokesman told The Leader that there was “no major update” on the situation.

Derek Anderson kicks a wood board in half at his belt promotion test for the Excel Martial Arts Academy, and earns himself a green stripe to wear around his waist. Students from the tae kwon do club demonstrated their skills under the critical eye of their instructors and to the excited oohs and aahs of invited family and guests at C. J. Schurter school last Saturday afternoon.

'Hawks eat up Fox Creek Bandits
The Fox Creek Bandits got their first win of the season Friday night against Hinton. On Saturday they put their one-game winning streak on the line against the Slave Lake Winterhawks and lost 17 – 3.
Wolves look better in road losses
The road warrior Wolves, who haven’t played a home game since Dec. 11, were back at it in Grande Prairie and Beaverlodge on the weekend. They lost both, but were in both games and played pretty well.
